Eminem’s Sister-In-Law Found Dead: ‘Suspected to Be Drug Use, Possibly Heroin,’ Says Mayor
Eminem‘s sister-in-law Dawn Scott was found dead on Tuesday from a suspected drug overdose, PEOPLE can confirm. She was 41.
Scott, who was also the biological mother of the rapper’s adopted daughter Alaina Scott, was found unconscious in a home in Macomb County, Michigan, along with an emaciated elderly woman who was taken to the hospital.
“She was found slumped over in bed and unresponsive,” Mayor James Fouts of Warren, Michigan told PEOPLE. “It’s suspected to be drug use, possibly heroin.”
The Macomb County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed Scott’s identity, but could not confirm an official cause of death as a toxicology report is still pending.
Although she didn’t mention any names, in December, Alaina tweeted a message, wishing for the wellbeing of those she cares for most.
“All I want in life is for the people I care about to be truly happy and healthy,” the 20-year-old wrote.
In her obituary, Scott is remember as the “loving mother of Alaina, Adam, and Patrick; Cherished sister of Kimberly Mathers; Beloved daughter of Casimer and Kathleen Sluck; Dear Aunt of Whitney Scott, Hailie Scott, and Parker Scott’ Dawn is survived by many extended loved ones and friends.”
Her memorial service is set for Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. at a funeral home in Michigan.
Eminem’s rep did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
